PAV Telecoms sponsors community cricket club the Soweto Pioneers an affiliate of the Central Gauteng Lions. The club offers a place for the people of Soweto and surrounding areas to belong and become. Soweto Pioneers is a channel for the growth of Cricket in Soweto. Created in February 2019 to become a feeder club for the Soweto Cricket Club and the Dobsonville Cricket Club.
A sense of belonging is a protective factor helping manage stress and other behavioural issues. When we feel we have support and are not alone, we are more resilient, often coping more effectively with difficult times in our lives. The Soweto Pioneers Cricket Club and PAV Telecoms believe in offering disadvantaged people a place to belong and become. PAV Telecoms are the 2022 sponsors of the Soweto Pioneers Cricket Club and their Teams.
At PAV Telecoms our promise is to offer entrepreneurs a place to belong and become. With this promise in mind we aim to ignite an entrepreneur revolution. We offer the unemployed prepaid SIM starter packs, Airtime and Cellphones, as well as training and incentives to go out into the market and build a business. We support all our PAV agents on the journey to become entrepreneurs with a variety of tools that reward them and provide essential information to grow their business and become a success.
Our CEO Matthew Francis has a passion for cricket and supporting organisations that believe in providing disadvantaged youth with a place to belong and become. Tebogo Makanete the chairman of the Soweto Pioneers Cricket Club in our interview commented “PAV Telecoms and the Soweto Pioneers Cricket Club have a shared vision and values to provide a supportive place for people to find purpose and meaning in their lives.”
On Sunday the 23rd of January the PAV Media team went on an adventure to capture the action of the Soweto Pioneers men’s team when they played Lenasia Cricket team at the Dobsonville Cricket grounds.
The GPS lead us on a crazy zigzag across the countryside to the Dobsonville cricket grounds where we were received with warmth and enthusiasm by the manager Siqama Laphu.
We all need a place to
belong and become
Siqama Laphu SQ for short, told us that he was a Maths and Science teacher at St David’s Marist boy’s school. The Soweto Pioneers were playing the Lenasia team that is rated a very good side and it was expected to be a tough game. SQ outlined for us the day to day challenges he faces with his team. He identified challenges such as raising funds, organising transport, keeping the team motivated and buying lunches. It was evident that SQ not only had a passion for his team and the game of cricket but also for the socio-economic challenges of the team and Soweto.
